Rising inflation. The government was forced to deny that inflation was getting out of hand in Argentina after the central bank's president, Martín Redrado, said he was "concerned" about recent inflation rates. Inflation has reached almost 9% in the past 12 months, according to Indec, the official statistics agency. The Indec, however, is under juridical investigation following allegations it manipulated inflation figures, lowering them in order to favour the government's candidate in October's presidential election, Senator Cristina Fernández. Independent analysts say "real inflation" could be as much as 15% in the past 12 months. The opposition wasted no time in attacking Fernández.
