Congress is fighting a rear-guard action against President Rafael Correa's efforts to dissolve it. Correa wants congress to be replaced with a legislative commission to run alongside the constituent assembly. In the wake of the comprehensive victory for Correa's Acuerdo País in the elections for the assembly on 30 September, congress adopted a resolution last week in which it promised to conduct an international campaign to defend itself.
