TRACKING TRENDS

BOLIVIA | Inflation triples estimates. Inflation for 2007 came to 11.7%, triple the government's target at the start of the year and almost double its revised target in July. Inflation for December was 0.63%, driven by increased transport costs: ticket prices were bumped up by an average of 10.05% as a result of the increased cost of fuel. The food and drink sub-index climbed by 0.53% in December after a 2.15% increase in November. The government blamed the speculation by agribusinessmen in the east of the country, who in turn blamed the government for trying to lower food prices by restricting exports and increasing imports.
