ARGENTINA: Unodc report underlines Argentine vulnerability

In mid September, the Colombian daily El Tiempo reported that members of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Miami are trying to establish how two of Colombia’s most wanted drug-traffickers, ‘Valenciano’ (Maximiliano Bonilla Orozco) and ‘Sebastián’ (Ericson Vargas), managed to hold three meetings in the Argentine city of Rosario, Santa Fe, under the nose of Argentine authorities. According to the paper, the DEA believes the meetings took place during the first week of September with the aim of splitting up the drugs peddling business in Medellín and avoiding an escalation in violence ahead of the 30 October regional elections in Colombia.
