CHILE: Student protests become a crisis for Piñera

President Sebastián Piñera has failed, over the past four months, to win the argument over the future of education reform in Chile. That is, essentially, the conclusion of the latest opinion poll from the Centro de Estudios de Realidad Contemporánea (Cerc), published on 27 September. The Cerc found that 89% of those it polled in the second half of August supported the students and 71% agreed that a referendum on education reforms, which the student advocate, rather than legislation by congress, is the way forward.
