ARGENTINA: Temporary factory closures increase worries

José Ignacio de Mendiguren, the president of the Unión Industrial Argentina (UIA), the most important industrial lobbying group in the country, was formerly a vehement critic of the economic and industrial policies being implemented by President Cristina Fernández. In September, however, he did an about-turn and began to laud the government. De Mendiguren’s change of heart was so drastic and so surprising that the local media even coined a new term for it: Mendigurización.
