Upon hearing of President Cristina Fernández’s (rumoured) designer shoe shopping extravaganza in September [RBS-11-09], local pundits quipped that perhaps the president was readying a new government plan: “shoes for everyone”, in reference of the plethora of official schemes running under the slogan ‘for everyone’ (‘para todos’). These include ‘meat for everyone’, ‘fish for everyone’ and ‘pork for everyone’, extending to fridges, TV sets and even the national football league which, having been acquired by the government, is now screened on national TV under the program ‘football for everyone’. The latest scheme, to produce television content, could well be called ‘soap operas for all’. Jokes aside, it appears that the so-called ‘cultural war’ will intensify under Fernández’s (anticipated) second term in office, when the ruling Frente Para la Victoria is expected to regain control of both chambers of congress (see previous page).End of preview - This article contains approximately 632 words.
