TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: After another deflated alarm, the emergency ends

The state of emergency declared by prime minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar last August, then extended after a fortnight to last until 5 December, was allowed to expire, but not before another alarm raised days earlier by her had been deflated. With the release of all those detained without charge under emergency provisions, the question making the rounds is what has been achieved by this exercise, costly in terms of business and public faith.
