MEXICO: Official kidnapping data under attack

Apart from the continuing debate over the official accounting of  fatalities resulting from the turf wars between drug gangs and the government’s own anti-cartel drive, the federal authorities have been coming in for heavy criticism for publishing data on kidnapping that most private sources consider understated to the point of being almost meaningless.
