MEXICO: Vázquez Mota wins PAN nomination
Josefina Vázquez Mota, 51, easily won the presidential nomination for the ruling Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) in a decisive first round victory on 5 February. The PAN immediately closed ranks around her. Vázquez Mota is the first woman to win the party’s presidential nomination and the first woman to have a real chance of becoming Mexico’s next president. Winning the presidential election, however, looks a tall order.
