POINTERS

BRAZIL | Homicide down, other crimes up in São Paulo. The number of intentional homicides in the state of São Paulo in 2011 was down by 3% to 4,189, equivalent to 10.05 per 100,000 inhabitants — just short of the target of 10 per 100,000 set by governor Geraldo Alckmin. The governor says this is because the police erroneously classified 62 cases of deaths in traffic accidents as intentional homicides.
