CUBA: Non-farm co-ops mooted to soak up excess labour

On 4 April the vice president of the council of ministers and Cuba’s economic policy czar, Marino Murillo, said that the council had approved in its most recent meeting on 31 March a new policy for “the experimental creation of cooperatives outside the agriculture sector”, as part of the 300 economic reforms approved a year ago at the Sixth Communist Party congress.
