At a cabinet meeting last week President Lula da Silva rejected freezing prices as a way to contain inflation, a measure that was adopted recently by the governments of Mexico and Uruguay. “I do not want any sort of artificial means," he was quoted as saying. Instead, he ordered his ministers to come up with measures to stimulate agricultural production, hoping this will ease the inflationary pressure coming from increasing food prices.
