COLOMBIA: Santos claims security success

Security is back at the top of the political agenda – where it has been historically in conflict-ridden Colombia. While the electorate’s concern with the economy over the past two years was widely interpreted as an indication that security achievements were allowing common citizens to worry about other ‘more common’ issues, the rekindling of concerns regarding security, especially given mixed reports on the government’s accomplishments, is politically damaging for President Juan Manuel Santos.
