PERU : Protests against mega-projects not yet materialised

In the wake of the protests against the Conga gold and copper mining project, sensitivity about major projects has peaked in Peru, directed not against projects under way but against hypothetical ones. One protest movement has been gaining strength against a hydroelectric project that might not materialise. Another has begun to brew over speculation that a projected gas pipeline might not be built, or might be considerably delayed.
