Last month the tensions in the dispute boiled over, resulting in one death, the resignation of the president of the state mining company Comibol, Héctor Córdova, and millions of dollars in losses. The dispute has brought to the fore post-nationalisation challenges and highlighted difficulties between the various groups that back Morales. It underlines the need for the government to make good on its promise to implement a new mining regulatory framework establishing clear operating rules for the sector.
