Enrique Peña Nieto should have an easier ride than President Felipe Calderόn – at least from a domestic political perspective. He will endure protest action during his investiture on 1 December, but the domestic political milieu is shaping up well for him. The outgoing Partido Acciόn Nacional (PAN) is supportive of the ambitious reforms he is proposing, and it might also be possible for his Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) to work with the left-wing Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD) in congress in future in the wake of the departure of its maverick presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
