The former prime minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair
(1997-2007), will advise the government of President Alvaro Uribe on foreign
policy. Uribe approached Blair after both men received the US presidential Medal
of Freedom from President George W Bush last week, the foreign minister, Jaime
Bermúdez, revealed. Bermúdez said Blair would look over the final
recommendations currently being drawn up by a “foreign policy mission" of
independent experts. Former president Andrés Pastrana (1998-2002) savaged the
proposal, saying that Bermúdez was “handing foreign policy over to
