BRAZIL: Power struggle exposes senate wrongdoings
The struggle for power between the ruling Partido dos Trabalhadores
(PT) and the government-allied Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro
(PMDB) has led to a series of denunciations that reveal the extent of
wrongdoings committed in the senate. Concerned that the quarrel between allied
parties in the senate would spill over into the government and, significantly,
damage the prospects of electing his successor, President Lula da Silva brokered
a truce.
