MEXICO: Not a happy anniversary for EPN

Three days before the end of President Enrique Peña Nieto’s first year in office, the leftist Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD) announced that it was withdrawing from the 'Pact for Mexico', the agreement by the country’s three major parties to seek consensus on a core agenda which was trumpeted as the cornerstone of the sexenio. This came on top of a barrage of bad news from other quarters, much of it related to shortcomings in the area of public security.
