BOLIVIA: Opposition candidates launch campaigns

With five months to go until the December elections, this week saw the main opposition candidates successively launch their campaigns for the presidency, ahead of the 7 September registration deadline. President Evo Morales, who remains more than 30 percentage points ahead of his closest rival, was more preoccupied with seeking to prevent a deal with Chile over the Silala River becoming an electoral issue.
