Congress gave its vote of confidence to the new prime minister,
Javier Velásquez Quesquén, this week after he presented the key objectives of
his cabinet, which he said consisted of strengthening democratic stability and
social inclusion. After several hours of debate, he won the backing of 68 of the
deputies present: 14 voted against him and 11 abstained. Velásquez said he was
starting the “second stage" of the government of President Alan García, who has
just under two years of his term to run. This neatly overlooks the fact that he
is the third prime minister after Jorge del Castillo and Yehude Simon to serve
under García since he took office in 2006.End of preview - This article contains approximately 358 words.
