Agriculture. Julián Domínguez took over as agriculture minister and promptly convened a meeting with the country's four main farming unions on 6 October. Domínguez, a deputy from the province of Buenos Aires, and mayor of Chacabuco, in the provincial agricultural heartland, replaced Carlos Cheppi, who resigned last month. The farming unions expressed contentment that the government had recognised the importance of the position by upgrading it from a secretary to a ministry, but scepticism that Domínguez's appointment would contribute to the resolution of a conflict dating back to March 2008.
