MEXICO: Interior minister resigns from PAN

Fernando Gómez Mont, the interior minister, resigned from the ruling Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) on 10 February. Gómez Mont's resignation from the PAN is the clearest sign yet of the deep misgivings the traditionalist wing of the party has about the “Stop the PRI at any costs" strategy espoused by the party president, César Nava. Gómez Mont has been in the PAN all his adult life and his father was one of the party's founders.
