HONDURAS: Zelaya rails against MACCIH, but US is supportive

The Frente Nacional de Resistencia Popular (FNRP), the radical left-wing civic movement linked to the ousted former president, Manuel Zelaya (2006-2009), called for a national strike on 1 October in demand of the installation of an international anti-impunity commission in Honduras (Cicih). Noticeably not participating in this planned strike were ‘Los Indignados’, whose representatives said that they would separately continue with their own “strategies” in support of a Cicih, namely the resumption of their peaceful torchlit night marches (Las Antorchas). This may suggest that the resistance to the newly announced Organization of American States Mission to Support the Fight Against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH, in the Spanish acronym) may not last for too long.
