In recent weeks President Jimmy Morales and his conservative Frente de Convergencia Nacional (FCN-Nación) government have faced protests from the indigenous sector over multiple demands. Among other things these include: calls for President Morales to honour his campaign pledge and crack down on official corruption; reforms to the country’s 1985 constitution to acknowledge indigenous methods to impart justice alongside the existing judicial system; and a reduction in electricity prices. Morales has since offered one concession (in relation to electricity prices).
