Paraguay: President Horacio Cartes has authorised increasing the minimum monthly wage by 3.9% to G$2.04m (U$371.11). An official statement said that the decision was in line with the new minimum salary law approved last year, which stipulates that the minimum wage is to be reviewed every year by a national salary council and adjusted for inflation if deemed necessary, rather than having to wait until the national inflation rate reaches 10% or higher, as previously stipulated. However, local unions have expressed dissatisfaction at the new minimum wage, which they still consider to be too low.
