Daniel Legarda, the executive president of Ecuador’s federation of exporters (Fedexport), has said that the organisation is
“on the alert” for possible consequences in sales to China over the next couple of months due to the outbreak of coronavirus (Covid-19). In an interview with Spanish news agency
EFE, Legarda said that so far there hadn’t been a reduction in exports but Fedexport was on the
“alert” that this could occur in March or April. Legarda also recalled that China is one of the most important markets for Ecuador’s non-traditional products, with annual exports worth around US$2.7bn.
