PARAGUAY: Under pressure from human rights defenders

A botched security operation against the Ejército del Pueblo Paraguayo (EPP) guerrilla group last September, which left two minors of Argentine nationality dead, and was followed by the kidnapping of former vice president Óscar Denis (2012-2013) in retaliation, continues to cause problems for the Paraguayan government led by President Mario Abdo Benítez. Denis remains in captivity, his whereabouts unknown, while human rights organisations continue to demand accountability for the deaths of the two girls.
