GUATEMALA: Bombing highlights enduring gang threat

The bombing of a bus in Guatemala City that killed nine people and injured at least a dozen has focussed attention on the size of the extortion racket run by the major maras (street gangs) and the government's perceived failure to curb it despite having deployed troops alongside the police in the capital.
