MEXICO: Optimistic 2023 budget proposal draws criticism

The private sector, economic think tanks, and financial analysts have reacted to Mexico’s 2023 draft budget, which Finance Minister Rogelio Ramírez de la O presented to congress on 8 September. Although the government had promised the budget proposal would be responsible and prudent, some economists have raised alarms, stating that the budget is based on over-optimistic macroeconomic data, which they say could precipitate spending cuts in the following year if changes are not made.
