VENEZUELA: UN report personally blames Maduro for ‘crimes against humanity’

Accusations that Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro presides over a repressive and authoritarian state are scarcely new. However, the claims within a United Nations (UN) report published on 20 September intensified the scrutiny of Maduro’s human rights record, accusing him of relying on systematic “crimes against humanity” to keep his government in power. The report claimed that Maduro himself has directly ordered the arrest and torture of political opponents.
