MEXICO: More Tren Maya trouble

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s flagship Tren Maya railway project was once again a topic of conversation for the wrong reasons this week. The 1,500-km railway, which is designed to connect tourist hotspots across Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, has been beset by legal challenges and contractual disputes. A disagreement is now brewing between Grupo México, the conglomerate that had been granted the contract to build the southern part of line 5 of the railway – perhaps the most beleaguered section – and the government.
