In brief: Tourism rebounds in Brazil

* Brazil’s national tourism agency (Embratur) has released the latest figures on foreign tourists, which showed that 3.25m tourists entered Brazil from January to June – 92% of the total number of tourists that visited Brazil in 2022 (3.6m). In June alone, 274,302 foreign tourists visited the country. An Embratur statement cites the agency’s president, Marcelo Freixo, as committing to continue working with airlines to open new routes and allow tourists to easily visit more destinations in Brazil. The statement cites Freixo as saying that “with each new route, Embratur will launch a series of promotional activities for our destinations, in the origin countries of these flights, to guarantee that tourists will come”. In the first five months of the year, most tourists came from Argentina (1.3m), followed by the US (327,000), Paraguay (233,000), Chile (223,000) and Uruguay (199,000). The Brazilian states to receive the most tourists were in the southern and south-eastern regions – São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, and Santa Catarina.
