MEXICO: Fast-track extradition for El Chapo’s son
Ovidio Guzmán López, one of the sons of the imprisoned former Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Loera, has been extradited to the US less than a year after his capture in the north-western state of Sinaloa. The swiftness of his extradition indicates high levels of collaboration between Mexico’s government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the US administration of President Joe Biden. However, for numerous reasons, the extradition is likely to serve more of a symbolic than practical purpose.
