* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest figures regarding Brazil’s balance of payments for August, which showed a current account deficit of US$778m. This is down from the US$3.6bn registered in July and US$7bn registered in August 2022. The accumulated current account deficit in the 12 months to August 2023 came to US$45.3bn (2.21% of GDP). The trade balance of goods in August registered a surplus of US$7.6bn, up from the surplus of US$7.2bn in July and from the US$2.6bn surplus in August 2022. Foreign direct investment (FDI) to Brazil in August saw a year-on-year decrease, registering US$4.3bn in 2023, down from the US$10bn registered in August 2022; although the latest FDI figure marks an increase from the US$4.2bn in July 2023.
