Brazilian federal deputy Glauber Braga, a member of the left-wing Partido Socialismo e Liberdade (PSOL), has ended a nine-day hunger strike in protest against a motion for his impeachment which has made progress in the lower chamber of congress. Braga stopped his hunger strike after the centre-right president of the lower chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos), agreed to delay the plenary vote on the motion to unseat him. Even though Brazil’s lower chamber is dominated by conservative parties, Braga’s allies succeeded in convincing Motta to postpone the impeachment vote, suggesting that left-wing politicians still enjoy some leverage in the legislative chamber.
