NICARAGUA: Ortega presents economic emergency plan

Last month, President Daniel Ortega proposed an economic package aimed at mitigating the effects of the global financial crisis; the plan includes provisions to reduce government expenditure, identify new markets and boost employment. However, with international cooperation still frozen in light of concerns over the November elections [RC-08-12], the need to restore ties with foreign donors is also high on the government agenda.
