President Rafael Correa swore in six new cabinet ministers last week.
He had already reshuffled his cabinet earlier in the month but the latest
appointments involved some fresh faces. This two-step process was ostensibly
designed to “renovate and radicalise" Correa's citizens' revolution but it is
noteworthy that he is relying more on technocrats than affiliates of his
left-wing Acuerdo País (AP). This could reflect the fact that Correa feels the
real threat to his power comes from within the AP rather than the weak and
