A technical meeting between Cuban border guard troops and US Coast Guard (USCG) recently took place in Havana. The declared objective was to boost operational cooperation in areas such as tackling the illicit trafficking of migrants and illegal drugs as well as maritime search and rescue operations. The meeting follows bilateral migration talks in April this year, the first since 2018, which were followed by a loosening of US restrictions on Cuba [WR-22-20].
