The PAN loses two states and barely wins Sonora

The ruling Partido Acción Nacional (PAN) could take little comfort from the gubernatorial elections. It lost two states it controlled (Querétaro and San Luis Potosí­); failed to win Nuevo Léon or Campeche and only won in Sonora because there was such as state-wide horror at the way the governor, Edurdo Bours, tried to escape any responsibility for the fire which killed 48 young children at a nursery in Hermosillo on 5 June. Bours comes from the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI).
